KERRY PETROLEUM INTERMEDIATE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
A dramatic final day in the group stages where any of the four teams could have qualified for the last eight or crashed out. As it transpired we came out on the right side of things when our Senior men overcame a stubborn Ballydonoghue effort and in the process qualified as group winners. The prize for that is a home quarter against familiar rival Glenflesk with the game throwing in on Saturday August 30th at 4pm in Direen. As it happened it was the home side that got the opening score in the first minute with Peter McCarthy and Eoghan O Sullivan replying to go ahead after 11 minutes. We took control in the second quarter kicking four unanswered points through the boot Finbarr Murphy 0-2 Ryan O Grady and David O Sullivan to leave the half-time score 0-6 to 0-2 in our favour. As was the case in the first half Ballydonoghue got the opening point of the second period but David O Sullivan replied with a point to keep the gap at four , 0-7 to 0-3. The introduction of James O Donoghue and Jack O Neill was welcomed and that served to drive the team on further , with Ryan O Grady and Finbarr Murphy adding to the tally. The final quarter was evenly contested with both sides exchanging scores with James O Donoghue, Jamie Alade and Cian Gammell all splitting the posts. In injury time Legion extended Ryan O Grady and Peter McCarthy put the icing on the cake of a 0-14 to 0-9 win.

MINOR COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Our minor boys travelled the long road to Waterville on Thursday evening to face the South Kerry District team with players from nine clubs, including familiar faces from Na Fianna, who they recently edged in a great Division County League Division 1 Shield final. The evening was perfect for football, and the hosts started brightly scoring from two turnovers to get a point and a goal a race into a lead. At one stage South Kerry were seven up but the lads found their rhythm and two fine team goals from Brían O Shea and Oisin Fleming gained parity before South Kerry edged in front at the break, although a great long distance effort from Finan Blackwell hit the uprights on the stroke of half time. The second half was another excellent half of football, with two teams playing positive football.
Legions back six were working hard to contain an impressive South Kerry forward line that included Kerry minor Kevin Griffin. Another great goal finished by Finan Blackwell brought them close, but with time running out, the district side went into a four point lead, aided by a Griffin two point free. But showing great resilience, and in injury time, the hard-working Legion players forced a team press turnover when South Kerry was playing keep ball, and Sean Pierce set up Brian OShea for a great goal.Winning the ball again from the resultant kickout and nearly got their just rewards from the game when Sean Pierces shot narrowly edged the wrong side of the right post. All in all, it was a superb effort by the lads and a performance they can build on when the quarter finals come in two weeks. Final score.. South Kerry 1-19 Killarney Legion 4-9.

From the throw-in, the game was played with incredible intensity. Legion delivered a full team performance, marked by sharp distribution, relentless defending, and some hard-earned scores. Despite kicking a few wides in the first half, the girls remained composed, and only a single point separated the sides at halftime.

Every player stepped up, showing real heart and teamwork to see out the game on the winning side.
