U8 BLITZ
We held our annual U8 blitz in Direen on Saturday morning which was a huge success . We were delighted to welcome teams from Cromane to Scartaglin and a big thanks to Justin Healy and Co. for a great morning. Thanks to all the helpers for the cake sale and all the people who baked the beautiful buns and cakes.
U14 BOYS
We came out flying in the first half of this U14 East Kerry league game against Kilcummin, played on Tuesday evening in Direen. We racked up an impressive first half total of 4-08 open up a commanding lead by half time. The intensity, movement, and finishing continued in the second half and despite both sides missing a few bodies, we took full advantage and didn’t take their foot off the pedal. By the final whistle, the scoreboard read 5-17 to 4-03 , to record an opening round win. A well-deserved victory built on a strong foundation early in the match. Credit to Kilcummin for battling and thanks to referee Evan Horan for officiating.
U16 BOYS
A very busy week for our U16 boys teams . On Tuesday night there was a dramatic win in Round 4 of Division 1 of the County League which kept hopes of a place in the semi-final alive. We played with the wind in the first half, but Listry dominated and deservedly led 1-5 to 0-6 at half time. We started the second half well and brought the game level. However, Listry pounced for two goals in quick succession to lead by six with 15 mins to go. The boys responded well and scored three points followed by a brilliant goal by Samuel Scroope to level the game again. Once more, Listry struck for a goal. The drama didn't finish there. We narrowed the gap to two, and with the last move of the game, the boys moved the ball from our own goal all the way up the field where Cian Hegarty finished the ball to the net. Well done to the boys for crafting out the win at the death against a very good Listry team. Thanks to Evan Horan for excellent officiating and so all roads led to Tralee on Thursday for our last group game against John Mitchels .
The boys dominated the game from the start against a John Mitchels team missing a few key players. After a strong first half performance, we led 3-11 to 1-7. The boys continued to play well in the second half and ran out good winners.
The team has recovered well after losing their first round game and, in winning the last 4 games, have qualified for the semi-final, which are due to be played next Thursday.
Our U16B Team hosted Listowel Emmets in Round 4 of the Division 9 of the County League on Friday evening. It turned out to be an excellent encounter between 2 evenly matched teams. Thanks to some well worked scores we led by 0-7 to 1-2 at half time. The game remained close throughout the second half and the teams were level with a few mins to go. The boys found the bit extra needed to kick the winning score and won out by a single point. A great team victory where everyone played their part. Thanks to Listowel Emmets players and management for a brilliant game and to Tim O'Donoghue for top class officiating. Our last group game is against Scartaglin next Tuesday. Final Score Killarney Legion 0-16 Listowel Emmets 3-6.
MINOR BOYS
A disappointing end to the group stages of the County League Division 1 which have been generally quiet postive but there was a lack of intensity in the defensive phase, a lack of breaking ball winning ability from kickouts and a lack of efficency in front of goal at crucial moments which proved costly. The lads will be be on action in a semi final in two weeks time so plenty to work on in the meantime.
Well done to the amalgamated South Kerry team on their first win. Final score Killarney Legion 4-13 Na Fianna 3-19.
SENIOR LADIES
Our senior ladies travelled to Tralee on Monday evening to take on Kerins O Rahillys in Round 2 of the Corrib Oil League. On a very wet and windy evening, it was the home team who started the better and led at half time 3-06 to 0-4 with some well taken goals. We mounted a spirited comeback in the second half to close the deficit only for the hosts to get two further goals to settle the contest. Final score Kerins O Rahillys 5-10 Killarmey Legion 2-09
The game marked Kiera Moynihans' senior debut, where she kicked a point and saw the return to action of Orianne McGillycuddy after illness and Lauren Carey after injury.
KERRY LADIES
Congratulations to the Kerry U16 Ladies team, who captured the All Ireland title on Wednesday night in Nenagh, defeating Mayo on a scoreline of 4-17 to 0-5. Our own Sophie O Shea was amongst the panel.
U18 LADIES
Well done to our U18 girls who took park in the second of the Super Touch (9-a-side) competition on Thursday evening in Fossa.
After a slow start in the first game against Fossa, the girls really grew into it and hit their stride in the second match — putting in a serious performance to come out 8-point winners against MKL. It was great to see the girls enjoying their football and showing such teamwork and energy throughout.
ALL IRELAND FINAL
We wish Darragh Lyne and the Kerry panel the very best of luck in this Sundays All Ireland Final in Croke Park. Jimmy McGuinness Donegsl provide the opposition for what promises to be an epic battle.
