COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION 1
Our Senior Men were unlucky not to take at least a share of the spoils in a high quality contest played in Connolly Park. This was certainly a good advert for the latest rule changes brought in by the FRC as both sides played the game in the correct spirit. David O Sullivan and Ryan O'Grady were lively early on as they shared five points between them to have the sides level. A feature of the opening quarter was an outstanding save from Brian Kelly which denied Stacks a certain goal. This was the trigger for a period of Legion domination with Sam Benson and Peter Mc Carthy joining Ryan and David on the scoresheet. A well worked move saw Peter finish the ball to the net but Stacks finished the half on the up, and the scores were level at 0-11 to 1-8. David O Sullivan was prominent again early in the second period but the Stacks started to look stronger, hitting two pointers and they struck for a goal of their own to open up a four point gap , 1-14 to 1-10. But Sam Benson had a tap in after Josh Bowlers initial shot hit the crossbar to tighten it up again. The Stacks pulled away again , 1-18 to 2-11 but a purple patch which yielded 1-3, through Ryan and a David O Sullivan penalty, had the visitors 3-14 to 1-18 ahead . But misfortune was about to strike as a long ball into the square was flicked on by Shane O Callaghan to snatch the game for the hosts. It was a cruel end to a game that no team should lose in that manner but if the performance levels can be maintained through the season there will be plenty of good days. A gratifying feature of the game was the appearance of young guns Josh Bowler, Tom Benson and Bryan Walsh who looked right at home at this level.

SENIOR B TEAM
Our Senior Mens B Team began their Div 6 County League campaign under the Direen lights on Friday evening against Milltown-Castlemaine. A very young team played with energy and quality throughout to secure a good win. Well done to the 5 players who made their Senior County League debuts in a team that had a nice blend of youth and experience. And also a good start for Team manager Sean McCarthy who has taken the reins this year , having made a great recovery from recent illness.
