SENIOR LADIES
Our senior ladies bounced back from the Dingle defeat in the Junior B championship on Monday evening when they welcomed neighbours Kilcummin to Direen. Knowing it was a must win game to advance to the knockout stages, the girls started brightly and open up an early 1-01 to no score lead. Kilcummin settled into the game and were more economical in front of the posts and with the help of a penalty led by three in closing stages of the half. But the ladies knuckled down  and went In at half time only down by the minimum at the break, 1-06 to 2-04. The second half saw our ladies gain control of the game and some well worked scores edged them in front. In a tough encounter both teams served up an entertaining game of football with the game ending on a score of Legion 1-12 Kilcummin 2-06. Advancing to the quarter finals of the competition , Kerins O Rahillys will provide the opposition in Direen on Sunday September 15th at 12 noon. All support is welcome.

U11 BOYS
Our U11 boys were back in action this week with a trip to Kenmare to play the next round of the East Kerry Go Games league . The 10 am start did not deter the teams from producing excellent football , good teamwork and some excellent score taking .Thanks very much to Kenmare for hosting and to their young referees who did a great job..Thanks also to Kerry senior star Seanie O Shea who took time out of his warm up to say hello and sign autographs for the boys . Up next are local rivals Kilcummin this Thursday September 12th.

U15 DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP Congratulations to the six Legion lads involved with the  East Kerry U15 team that captured the Lee Strand  County District Championship in Austin Stack Park last Wednesday evening. They beat St Brendans Board in the final 4-9 to 0-9, a reverse of an earlier result where they  lost to the Tralee area team. Well done to Nigel Shevlin who was part of the successful management team.

ACADEMY OPEN DAY/ BARBECUE
Direen was a hive of activity on Saturday morning as our Academy hosted an open morning for all families based in the Killarney area. Bouncy castles, fun and games were on the menu for the morning and fair to say the young and not so young certainly enjoyed the activities. Hats off to Justin Healy and Co., they have given Saturday mornings a flying start. The festivities spilled into Sunday as our Social committee hosted the end of Summer barbecue. Hats off to Brita Hegarty and her committee who helped organise a fantastic afternoons entertainment. Timmy Bull O Donoghue and his crew made sure everyone was kept fed and watered and by dusk the weekend had drawn to a close. A big thank you to everyone who volunteered and helped make the two days such a huge success. A sure sign that great teamwork isn't just limited to the pitch!!

U16 LADIES
The final act of the U16 Div 6 County League played out in Keel on Tuesday evening. Southern Gaels and Killarney Legion treated supporters to an exhibition of football in a high scoring encounter on a perfect sod in Keel.  Playing with the aid of a slight breeze in the first half, Southern Gaels went into the break with a five point cushion , an early goal proving vital in keeping them in the ascendancy. The girls had work to do but got straight down to it after the restart chipping away at the lead and were on level terms 10 minutes later. Both sides raised green flags to keep the scoreboard busy and it was all to play for going down the stretch. With the floodlights coming on, Legion notched a couple of points to edge in front. A late goal in injury time sealed the result for the girls in green and white.  Well done to both teams for playing a sporting entertaining final. Thanks to Keel GAA for hosting, the referee for his officiating and to Nora Fealy Kerry LGFA for the trophy presentation after the game. Thanks to all the supporters who cheered on the girls throughout.
Final score Killarney Legion 3-14 Southern Gaels 2-10
