Drama was in plentiful supply in Fossa this evening as the Senior ladies withstood a mighty challenge from a gallant Laune Rangers outfit to capture the Donal Curtin Division 3 League final. An elongated second half and a missed penalty from the Launesiders added to the tension but a sterling defensive showing was the cornerstone of the victory. The accuracy of Ciara Randles and Kate McCarthy embellished that workrate and when the need was greatest , they popped up with a vital intervention.
Laune Rangers opened the scoring before Kate opened the Legion account. Orianne McGillycuddy then knifed through the Mid Kerry defence to set up Ciara Randles for a neatly taken goal. The same duo added further points, all needed as the Rangers' Sara Leslie kept her side in touch at half time, 1-3 to 0-4.
With the wind in their favour, Laune Rangers made an impressive start, nailing five points in the third quarter. Kate McCarthy kept in touch and with Ciara Randles also on target the game was evenly poised heading into the final furlong. Laune Rangers were awarded a penalty close to home but the well struck effort just went the wrong side of the post , much to the relief of the green and white supporters, especially since Kate McCarthy had hit a monster free to put them one point clear previous to the spot kick award. The final moments were heart in the mouth stuff but a combination of good defending and ball retention when needed saw them close out an epic game.
Final score Killarney Legion 1-8 Laune Rangers 0-10.

Well done to management Ted Healy, John McCarthy and Desiree Crowley who had them in tip top shape for the final. Not to forget Orla Culloty, part of the set up all year, who is on the mend following her own running repairs to an injury.
