U15 COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONS
Pride of place this week has to go to the U15 Boys who saw off the gallant challenge of Firies in a great battle in Milltown last Wednesday night. When the full time whistle went all that separated the sides was a single point as Firies mounted a furious attempt towards the end of the game to rescue a win. The first half was a tight affair with little between the sides throughout , the boys taking a one point lead into the dressing room at half time, 0-7 to 0-6. Some timely goals in the second half pushed us five points clear but it was the signal for Firies to launch that late charge but stout defending saw us win out on a 2-11 to 1-13 scoreline. Captain Ronan O Brien received the Division 1 cup afterwards , much to the delight of the strong support present in the Mid Kerry venue. Commiserations to Firies who out in a trojan effort on the night. and to the referee Evan Horan and his umpires who did a fine job officiating .
Team: James Murphy, Ryan Twomey, Ronan O Brien (Capt), James O Callaghan, William Fogarty, Mark Looney, Conor Moynihan, Samuel Scroope (0-2), Jamie Fleming, Dara Horan (0-1), Jack Culloty (0-5), Sean Lyne, Cian Hegarty (1-1), Jack Grady (1-2), Jayden Hurley.
Subs: Luca Mosca, Marco Mosca, Ryan Kissane, Ewan McGillicuddy, Sean Horan, Jake Coffey (Inj) Liam Quirke.
And of course a big well done to the management team of Fergal Moynihan, Peter O Leary, Paul Moriarty, Tomas Horan, Conor Myles and Enda Murphy who had the lads well prepared on the night.
SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE
A local derby played in Spa on Friday night saw the home side grab the spoils . A converted penalty late in the first half was the difference in the end. It had looked very promising early on as good point taking had us in a strong position but that penalty and a black card helped Spa wrestle back the initiative. The second half was nip and tuck and the goal was always the cushion the home side had in hand. Final score Killarney Legion 0-15 Spa 1-15.
Dingle are the visitors to Direen in an important Round 8 clash. Throw in is 7.30pm this Saturday May 25th in Direen.
KERRY
Congratulations to Oisin Fleming and his Kerry team mates on their Munster Final win over Cork in Pairc Ui Rinn on Monday May 13th. Oisin was introduced in the second half and now they look forward to the quarter finals where they will face the Connacht runners up. On the other side of things commiserations to Brian Kelly, goalkeeping coach, and the Kerry U20s who fell short of a very impressive Tyrone side in the All Ireland final in Portlaoise last Sunday.
UNDER 13 BOYS
The U13 boys are certainly enjoying their County campaign, netting another win , this time against Kenmare on a 5-15 to 4-8 scoreline . Displaying a nice level of skill it was a tremendous contest throughout and a lot of the credit goes to Kenmare as well for what they brought to the party.
UNDER 14 LADIES
Our U14s were in action last Sunday week in their third League game in Division 3 at home to Scartaglen. Our Legion girls started off strong and settled into the game nicely. Working the ball up through the middle, with great support on the wings, the girls were able to earn some well worked goals and points heading into the half. The Legion girls continued the second half with confidence while Scartaglan were persistent and never gave up. Legion took the points on the night with all 18 players contributing to a victory. Thank you to the ref and to Scartaglen for a very sporting game.
