SENIOR B TEAM
Patrick Kielty may be the new host of the Late Late Show on Friday night but the Senior B Team produced their own Saturday evening version in Direen to qualify for the Molyneaux Cup final. Trailing by 1-10 to 1-5 with twelve minutes to spare the game looked to be out of reach but a strong finish grabbed the spoils. Sam Benson got the ball rolling with a point soon followed by another by David O Sullivan. With the game heading for injury time Peter O Sullivan broke down the right wing, cut inside and laid it off to Shaun Keane , who duly sent a low scudder to the net. With the sides now level it was all in the melting pot . David O Sullivan, accurate all afternoon, nudged Legion one point ahead and some stout defending saw out the win. Glenflesk had looked comfortable at various stages in the first half as well but some well timed interventions from David O Sullivan and Thomas Moriarty with an opportunistic goal meant they were never out of reach. Leading 1-7 to 1-5 at the short whistle , the men from the Glen extended their advantage to five midway through the half but that was only the prompt for the home side to finish with a flourish.
Team.. KJ Griffin, Cathal Sheahan, Sean McCarthy, Callum O Donoghue, Daniel Carroll, Peter O Sullivan, Alan Moriarty, Shaun Keane (1-1), Kieran O Donoghue, Mark Heffernan, Sam Benson (0-1), Callum O Grady, Thomas Moriarty(1-0), David O Sullivan (0-6). Tadgh Doolan.

U12 GIRLS
The U12 Girls are still in action and on a very damp and windy Tuesday evening in Direen, the Green team faced a tough challenge with the weather and with their opponent, Beaufort. Both sides gave it their all for the entire game but it was the visitors who held the upper hand from start to finish as they struck for the all important goals in both halves that kept them in front on the scoreboard. Hard luck to the Legion girls who never gave up but well done to Beaufort who were the better team on the night. Thank you to our referee and our supporters who braved the elements to cheer on the girls.
The second part of the double bill in Direen was the White team , who took on Kilcummin in the same challenging conditions . Although each team was assisted by the breeze for a half, there was never much in the difference, and both teams battled hard for the result. In the end, we came out on the right side, albeit by the slimmest of margins. Thanks to all who contributed to an entertaining game in brezzy conditions - both teams, players and mentors, referee, parents, and guardians.
U14 GIRLS
The girls played the final round of the East Kerry league on Sunday afternoon in a Division 1 clash versus Scartaglen played at a very wet and windy Cordal. The teams were well matched in the opening exchanges with the visitors having a slight edge on the scoreboard. Both teams coped well in the difficult conditions and an open, high scoring half ensued. Legion were the first to raise a green flag to edge in front. Scartaglen did pierce the visitors defence on occasion but were denied a green flag by some solid defending. All to play for in the second period as the heavens opened and the wind raised up a few more knots . The girls got into their rhythm and combined well from back to front to extend their lead. The hosts battled on but found the scores hard to come by in the face of the strong breeze. Two goals in the closing quarter secured the points for the girls in green. Final score Scartaglen 0-10
Killarney Legion 3-15.
U11 BOYS
On a terrible Sunday morning in Direen our U11s took on a good Firies side with both teams fielding 2 even teams. A big thank you to referees John Keane and Oisin Fleming,
Donal O Donoghue who looked after the teams and also helped get the fields ready.
MOTHERS AND OTHERS UPDATE
3000 women, 148 teams, and a lot of energy descended on Portmarnock Dublin on Saturday 16th September for the Gaelic Mothers and Others National Blitz. Our “All Ireland”. There were only 2 teams from all of Kerry, and Killarney Mothers and Others Legion represented their club and county well. A day of great football (5 games, 5 wins), laughter, networking, friendships, costumes and socialising make this an event that just goes from strength to strength.
There are 540 Gaelic Mothers and Others clubs nationwide and what they represent within their clubs and areas is powerful. We at Killarney Mothers and Others Legion would like to thank our coaches Mike Doody and Jason Stack , our sponsors John Bowler or Eddie Rockets Killarney & DeBarra Health/Safety Consultants, to the group of women who started this 5 years ago, to the LGFA for an amazing initiative that keeps growing and to all the M&Os we have had the pleasure of playing in our own county and nationally. We train every Wednesday from 8-9pm and all abilities are always welcome. Just try it out .
