LADIES UPDATE
Our U10 girls welcomed Firies into Direen on Tuesday night last and both teams played some lovely football. It's great to see so many girls playing and enjoying the game. Also, thanks to our two young referees who did a fine job.
On a beautiful evening in Direen last Tuesday our younger White Team in under 12s faced St Senans where the game flowed in our favour from the start. The away team made us work hard for awhile, but our backs did their job and our forwards got the necessary scores that kept us in the lead until the final whistle. This was our last game in the County League and the improvement in every girl is immense.
We also said goodbye this evening to one of our players who is returning to Spain with her family after playing with us for 2 years. She took to football so naturally and was an asset to our team. We wish her well in the future.
The Legion U12 Girls Green team travelled to Finuge / St.Senans for their final match of the County League on Friday night. The hosts were quickest out of the blocks and raced into a big lead at half. It was a lead they were never going to relinquish despite Legion’s work rate. The second half fared better for our girls who were up for the challenge and put together some really good passages of play but in the end the goal difference at half proved too much to overcome. Thank you to our U12 White team mates who made a good contribution to this evenings match and thank you to all the Legion supporters who travelled the distance. Thank you as well to the Ref and to Finuge /St. Senans for hosting the match. We now await the results from other games to see who the Green team plays in the Finals.
Our u14 girls teams concluded the group stages of their County League campaign with 2 home games. The Green team ,competing in Division 3, welcomed Churchill to Direen on a damp Sunday evening. On Monday the White team playing in Division 6 hosted Laune Rangers on a much more pleasant evening for football. In greasy conditions on Sunday, both teams served up an exciting end to end contest. Despite a spirited second half comeback from the hosts, Churchill got the all important goals at crucial stages to seal the win. Goals also proved to be the difference between the sides in Monday evening’s clash with Laune Rangers. The girls used the breeze to their advantage in the second period to raise enough green flags to claim the two points on offer.
Thanks to the visitors from Churchill & Laune Rangers for two sporting games and to the referees officiating on both evenings. Well played to all the girls in action and thanks to the U12 girls who played the game on Monday.
We now await results from other games to see if our teams progress to the semi final stages of the competition in the coming weeks.

U15 BOYS
Our U15 second team Boys were most unlucky to come out the wrong side of a fantastic battle with Fossa in the East Kerry final, played at a lush Fitzgerald Stadium Friday evening. After a slow start they thundered into the game in the second quarter leading 3-7 to 1-6 at half time. All was going to script in the second half until Fossa staged a late comeback clinching the win with a late goal. A disappointing finish but no doubt one they will learn from in the future. Final score Killarney Legion 4-9 Fossa 3-15.

KERRY LADIES
A huge well done to the Kerry Ladies ,who by virtue of a superb win over Mayo, qualified for a second successive All Ireland Final. Keri Ann Hanrahan picked up a hand injury some time back, joined on the sidelines by the unfortunate Siofra O Shea, but both players remain part of the set up in what is a strong and unified group. The final will be a carbon copy of the Mens decider, a joust with the Metropolitans. Throw in is 4pm on Sunday 13th August in Croke Park.

KERRY VS DUBLIN
Hard luck to the Senior Mens team who just got pipped at the post in a bid to claim a 39th All Ireland title by Dublin.




DEEPEST SYMPATHIES
The Club extends its sympathies to the family of our neighbour in Direen ,Jackie Fleming, who passed away during the week. Also to the family of the late Tony Lawlor. Tony was a familiar face in the place of employment for many years, the Dromhall Hotel, but also was a staunch and fervent supporter of the Club, rarely missing a game. May both Jackie and Tony Rest in Peace.
