CLUB AWARDS NIGHT
The magnificently appointed Killarney Brewery in Fossa played host to our Annual Awards Night on Friday last. Social committee members Sharon O Grady, Patricia Quigley, Orla Culloty and Timmy O Donoghue alongside Club Chairman Dave Randles pulled out all the stops to ensure a great night was enjoyed by all. Fear an ti Brian Looney made sure everything went like clockwork with the format and surroundings gaining favour with the large crowd present. Diarmaid O Donoghue followed in the footsteps of his late father James with a place in the Clubs Hall of Fame, a choice that needed little debate. Darragh O Doherty and Sam Bensons performances in 2022 earned them the Senior and Young Player of the Year gongs with Alan Moriarty again being named Junior Player of the Year. In a new departure Callum O'Donoghue was crowned Young Junior Player of the Year while Andrea Murphy's form saw her being named as Young Player of the Year in the Ladies department. Isabelle Corridan followed up her 2015 Player of the Year award with another in 2022 , thanks to some impressive performances and outstanding commitment. The Cooper Cup for Clubperson of the Year went to Enda Walshe while Sarah Leahy's rise to international stardom in Athletics was rightly acknowledged by the Club. Big thanks also to Pat Moynihan who organised a courtesy bus to and from the venue with his usual efficiency.

SENIOR MEN
THE Senior B team were busy this past week with two away games. On Tuesday they were in Kilcummin for a East Kerry League date and lost by two points  2-8 to 2-6. Then on Friday, in the County League, they lost by the bare minimum, 1-6 to 0-8, in Milltown. While not a successful week the big positive is the amount of players getting game time this year. A definite step forward.
The Kerry Petroleum Intermediate Club Championship will now kick off in early August with fixture details due to be confirmed in the week ahead. An opener against Currow at a neutral venue is already in the offing, with the remaining games against Laune Rangers and Kilcummin to be confirmed. With more Intemediare teams than Senior currently with Division 1 status it promises to be an ultra competitive championship. 








JUVENILE BOYS UPDATE

Our U15 Boys hosted Firies in the East Kerry Division 1 Semi final last Wednesday evening in Direen. A tight and cagey first half saw an even contest, which Firies just about shaded on the scoreboard. We had two good openings for goals  in the opening quarter - the crossbar keeping one out and Firies themselves almost netted after an unfortunate slip in the goalmouth area.
The second half started with Firies getting the first goal of the game and a handful of points as we struggled to retain possession. Firies netted again to open up a healthy lead but  then we got a lovely goal and pushed hard for a comeback. Firies netted twice more as the game opened up and Legion also got two goals but will rue missing a few more - again the Direen woodwork keeping the green flag down . The young Legion team (more than half are u14 players) will regret the missed opportunities but will have learned plenty from tonight's game. It was played in a sporting manner on the pitch, well refereed, and good appreciation from both sets of supporters for the efforts on the pitch.

LADIES UPDATE
The Legion U12 Girls Green team hosted Beale in their 4th match of the County League in midweek. The girls were up for the challenge of what was to be a very fast-paced game from end to end. They made a very strong start , and their consistent work rate throughout the game resulted in Legion coming away with the points on the night. Thank you to Beale for travelling the distance and thank you to our U12 White teammates who made a significant contribution to this evening's match and not forgetting all the Legion supporters. Finally, a huge thank you to our volunteer referee Lara O Brien, who came through in a pinch to ensure the girls would get a game in on the night.




KERRY 
A successful weekend for all inter county teams in action. The U16 Ladies, with Lauren Carey in the squad, overcame a late Sligo surge to capture the U16 B All Ireland title. Austin Stack Park was a heaving welter of excitement Saturday night as the Senior Ladies dethroned All Ireland champions Meath to qualify for a semi final date with Mayo. Unfortunately panellist Keri-Ann Hanrahan suffered a hand injury in training so her participation in the remaining games is in doubt. Well done also to their male counterparts as a late surge saw them overwhelm Derry and set up a romantics favourite,  a Kerry vs Dublin All Ireland final.






DEEPEST SYMPATHIES 


The Club extends its sympathies to the family of Catherine McAuliffe. Catherine's brother Michael and sister in law Maura McCarthy are stalwarts of the Club. Also to the family of Senior player Stephen Flattery on the death of his grandmother Margaret Lynch, Trim Co. Meath.
