SENIOR MEN
Our Senior Men bowed out of the Kerry Petroleum Intermediate Club Championship but not without a rousing comeback which almost salvaged the game. Trailing by nine points on two different occasions in the second half , two cracking goals from James O Donoghue and Josh Bowler lit the fuse for a rousing finale and a late effort to tie up the game drifted across the goal. An Ghaeltacht had the benefit of the faster start with some accurate point scoring and a well worked goal. That served to put them into a 1-5 to 0-2 lead but after weathering that early storm , points from David O Sullivan, Darragh Lyne and Ryan O Grady steadied the ship . It left the halftime deficit at a manageable 1-9 to 0-6 , with the strength of the wind being a significant factor. Ryan O'Grady hit an early second half point but another body blow was about to come in the shape of another goal for the Westerners. But the introduction of James O Donoghue and Josh Bowler put renewed fire in the Legion bellies and they combined to make it a two point game with the clock striking toward added time. But the late siege failed to bring an equaliser and when the final whistle blew the scoreboard read Killarney Legion 2-14 An Ghaeltacht 2-16. The O Donoghue Cup is next on the agenda with the commencement of that competition likely to be late Autumn.

MINOR BOYS
Our minor boys had a stunning but deserved win  over Dr .Crokes in the quarter final of the Keanes SuperValu County Championship.  While you could argue that the match  was  a shootout between Oisin Fleming (0-10) and Dr Crokes Ben Kelliher (0-11) , it would be unfair on the rest of the team who put their collective shoulders to the wheel in a power packed local derby. Leading by 0-7 to 0-5 at half-time , that advantage was wiped out by two two-point frees to put Crokes ahead for the first time . But the response was emphatic, as a Brian O'Shea 36th minute goal made it 1-7 to 0-9. Dr Crokes went ahead only once more in proceedings but never pushed on as Oisin Fleming gave us the lead again in the closing stages. Dr Crokes made a late charge for an equaliser but the defence held firm to make our first Kerry MFC semi-final in five years. The draw sees us play St Kierans this Thursday,  September 11th, at 6pm in Austin Stack Park. Final Score Killarney Legion 1-13 Dr Crokes 0-15.

SENIOR LADIES
Our Senior Ladies travelled to Kenmare on Sunday to take on ISG in the Bon Secours Junior A championship with both teams knowing a win would secure a quarter final place. ISG playing with a strong breeze started the stronger with the opening 2ltwo points before Ciara Randles hit the back of the net with a well worked team goal to open the scoring for Legion. The hosts kicked the next two points before finding the net themselves to stretch the lead out to four.  However the ladies tacked on two further scores through Laura Healy to halve the deficit. Further points were added by Andrea Murphy(2) and  Laura Healy to leave the half time score at ISG 1-07 Legion 1-05 . ISG got the ideal start to the second half scoring a rapid fire two goals in the opening minutes , and added two further points to now open up a ten point lead ,  leaving a steep mountain to climb. A bad injury and a yellow card for two  ISG players halted their momentum somewhat and that served  to mount a comeback. Points from Kate McCarthy, Ciara Randles and Chloe Hue closed the gap before further scores from Ellen Coffey & Laura Healy (3) brought the game down to the wire. Laying siege to the Kenmare goal they couldn't summon a game saving score as  the hosts stood firm and would not be breached . Final.score ISG 3-10 Killarney Legion 1-12.
Best of luck to ISG in the quarter finals and wishing a speedy recovery to their injured player.
It brings the curtain down on the senior ladies season which saw them get to the Donal Curtin semi final and win a Senior Club League for the second year running before bowing out of the Championship.

U12 BOYS
Our U12 boys continued their under 12 East Kerry Go Games campaign with an away fixture to Glenflesk last Wednesday evening  Full credit to Glenflesk , whose fields were in very good nick after a lot of rain in the last week. Two excellent games of football transpired with plenty of skill on show by all four teams. The Legion's black-and-white team held their own for the first half, with the home side getting the upper hand in the second half to run out winners in the evening. Our green and white team, on the other hand, put in a good performance and came away with a good solid win . Big thanks to Glenflesk for hosting us and to the referees for excellent refereeing. Up next, we have one more game at home this Wednesday night, and what will be the last game in this series.

U14 GIRLS
There was no joy for our U14 girls on Wednesday night as they narrowly lost out to Dr. Crokes in a high-tempo and hard-fought East Kerry Division 2 semi-final. From the first whistle, both sides found scores difficult to come by in a tightly contested opening half. Legion gradually settled and finished the half strongly, taking a deserved four-point lead into the break. However, Dr. Crokes came out firing in the second half, quickly registering a goal and a point to swing momentum their way. Legion struggled to match the renewed intensity and pace, and as legs tired, it became more difficult to find the scores needed to claw back the deficit. It was a tough result for the girls, and ultimately, our composure under pressure and sharp execution of the basics proved decisive on the night. Congratulations to Dr. Crokes on their win, and thank you to the referee and all who supported the game. We now await a shield final fixture. Full time score Killarney Legion 2-9 Dr Crokes 4-7.
