DONAL CURTIN CUP
Drama was in plentiful supply in Fossa on Monday evening last as the Senior ladies withstood a mighty challenge from a gallant Laune Rangers outfit to capture the Donal Curtin Division 3 League final. An elongated second half and a missed penalty from the Launesiders added to the tension but a sterling defensive showing was the cornerstone of the victory. The accuracy of Ciara Randles and Kate McCarthy embellished that workrate and when the need was greatest , they popped up with a vital intervention. Laune Rangers opened the scoring before Kate opened the Legion account. Orianne McGillycuddy then knifed through the Mid Kerry defence to set up Ciara Randles for a neatly taken goal. The same duo added further points, all needed as the Rangers' Sara Leslie kept her side in touch at half time, 1-3 to 0-4.
With the wind in their favour, Laune Rangers made an impressive start, nailing five points in the third quarter. Kate McCarthy kept in touch and with Ciara Randles also on target the game was evenly poised heading into the final furlong. Laune Rangers were awarded a penalty close to home but the well struck effort just went the wrong side of the post , much to the relief of the green and white supporters, especially since Kate McCarthy had hit a monster free to put them one point clear previous to the spot kick award. The final moments were heart in the mouth stuff but a combination of good defending and ball retention when needed saw them close out an epic game.

U15 BOYS
An excellent win for our U15B Team on Wednesday evening against Rathmore A in Round 3 of the East Kerry League Division 2. Played in Direen aided by a strong breeze the boys produced a very strong first half performance and established a good lead at the break. Rathmore upped their game in the second half and cut into the lead but the boys closed out the game well. With two wins out of three games, the team has performed very well against strong A Teams. They will play in the Division 2 final next week. Thanks to Rathmore for a good sporting game and to Evan Horan for a great job in officiating.
Our U15A team made it three wins from three by defeating Spa on Friday evening in Derreen. Spa started the better scoring the first three points of the game but the boys played their way back into the game and led at half time by 1-6 to 0-3. Throughout the second half the lads gradually extended their lead to run out 13 point winners by the final whistle. Thanks to Spa for a fine game and Evan Horan had a busy week refereeing the game well. The team have now qualified for the Div 1A East Kerry League final against Kilcummin this week.
MEMORY LANE
We go back almost sixty years and in the latter part of 1965 the Killarney Legion senior team were crowned East Kerry Winter League Champions. It was a competition played to keep lads in shape for the off season and amongst the team were some of the clubs finest. Michael Culloty lined out between the posts with Noel McCarthy, Louis Nolan and Seamus O Neill offering him protection in the full back line. Adrian Culligan( brother of former Garda Commisioner Patrick), Gene Fogarty and Noelie O Brien were a stout half back line. Brendan Lynch and current Club President Tommy Regan flanked Mikie Lyne in the half forward line. While Mickey Culloty(brother of Johnny), the towering Padraig O Meara and Mick the Gun O Sullivan led the front line. Johnny Healy of New Street , who captained the club to success in 1967 O Donoghue Cup , lined out at midfield alongside Tommy Bracker O Regan. The latter passed away during the week and his involvement in the team was down to his work mate in the Great Souyhern Hotel and namesake, our President Tommy Regan. We extend our sympathies to his family at this sad time.
SPEEDY RECOVERY
A quote from Claudius from Shakespeares Hamlet "When sorrows come, they come not single spies but battalions ". This was very much the case for two unlucky members of our Mens senior panel. Both William Shine and Billy McGuire have been struck down with the dreaded ACL injury. Both left the field in Glenflesk in obvious discomfort and the worst fears were realised following investigation. We wish both a perfect recovery with an extended period of rehab needed after surgery .
CONGRATULATIONS
Our Senior goalkeeper Brian Kelly made the best catch of his career last weekend, as he tied the knot with Rheanne O Shea. We wish the happy couple the very best for the future.
